RICK AND MORTY - Mortgully: The Last Rickforest

I was so excited for this one to come out, felt like Rick and Mortys very own nature doc. The only thing missing was David Attenborough! The crew pulled through for one of the highest asset counts ever done on the show and crushed once again from evolving characters and backgrounds, and the feeling of time lapse photography. Above are some rough drawings I put together in the early stages of production. Cheers RaM fam to this remarkable epic and thank you to Daniel David Cole for directing this beauty!  

RICK AND MORTY - A Ricker Runs Through It

In this installment we get introduced to Reese, a password vault disguised as a human for Rick when he's too drunk to remember his passwords....which apparently happens often. Reese (played by Owen Wilson), relays all his fishing wisdom that speaks to Morty. 'Got to wade with the current'. The first image I concepted here are the hog people that generate Ricks vodka. The head honcho hog hacker in camo fatigues steal Reese and gain access to Ricks passwords sending his garage into lockdown mode and sends the room spinning with centrifugal force seen in the second image I did an early rough paint over. The bottom image is an early rough attempt I did at the Cloud IT world that Rick must call to unlock his password protected vault....with metallurgy. 

RICK AND MORTY - Rick Fu Hustle

Season 9!!! The Smith family gets a pool season! Rick and Morty both get death punched

in 'Rick Fu Hustle' and take a quest to find a sage old kung fu master that holds the secret to undo the death punch cycle. They lug this heavy suitcase to Tigers Nest that turns into the 'Punchamalizer' seen above in a rough concept I put together. Through this device, Rick is able to record secret kung fu data and download them into the Punchamalizer and reverse the curse of the five finger death punch.  
 

RICK AND MORTY - Season 8 Skateboard Art

At last the season 8 crew skateboard deck! It's based on a fun sequence from Ricker Than Fiction that I art directed. I pitched multiple images that would have required a lot more elbow grease but we landed on this one that appeared more graphic and used art directly from the episode. This was born from the director Doug Olsen's boards, character design by Brad Lewis, and color by Corey Boothe. I tweaked a few things and helped assemble it but really this one is from the crew, to the crew. Thanks to Welcome Skateboards for another beauty!

RICK AND MORTY - Fear No Mort

RaM finale was this seasons horror episode, one of my favorites. Felt like a modern twilight zone episode. This is a rough I did of the skin crawler monster seen in the cold open. I think originally it was a skin thief but ended up settling for a spleen.

 

RICK AND MORTY - Unmorticken

Rick finally exacts revenge on his nemesis and somehow walks away unfulfilled and lost to what life means moving forward. Whats in store for Rick after this triumphant episode? This was one of the hardest episodes I've ever had the pleasure to Art Direct in keeping all the small details top of mind so the episode at large remained seamless. The crew crushed it as usual with their attention to detail knowing the importance of the episode to the overall series. This is a tentacle creature concept rough I did that breaks through a force field dome in Evil Morty's sci fi paradise, just pure cosmic killing machine. 

 

RICK AND MORTY - Air Force Wong

Mr Stabby just came into this world this way, don't blame him. Following that is Onyx, a couple characters I did some concepts for that made the cut in season 7's third episode 'Air Force Wong'.

 

RICK AND MORTY - The Jerrick Trap

These are a couple alien mobster concepts from a vast vault of scrapped unused concepts from season 4 that didn't make the cut for the acid vat episode at the time. I'm thrilled they were able to find a home in season 7 - The Jerrick Trap. Great job to the crew, I loved this episode. One of my favorite all time RaM episodes. 
 

ADIDAS WORLD CUP SPOT - Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty find a new opponent on the field kicking the new Adidas Al Hilm ball like rockets at their heads. We wanted to create a dark horror set on the field, mixed with treating the balls like the egg room in Aliens. This was only for streamer platforms. The first world cup commercial aired on tv back in July promoting the first of two balls revealed for the 2022 World Cup. What an epic and exciting game, congratulations Argentina on their big win!
 

RICK AND MORTY - A King in King Mortur's Mort

Special Agent Mongo Bongo tracks down a thugs hideout to free the hotdog babies that have been illegally trafficked and sold to the public for consumption. They are finally free but Mongo meets his doom to a giant predatory hawk. RIP Mongo Bongo.

 

RICK AND MORTY - Season 6 Skateboard art

It's that time of year again! The new season 6 Rick and Morty crew skateboards are here and were handed out to the crew at our holiday party last night. I love watching the reactions of the crew as they receive this gift, truly rewarding. It's tough sneaking in the time to do this while hitting deadlines for the episodes but well worth it. This setup is from the Night family episode. I tried to capture the 70's grindhouse effect and 80's horror poster nostalgia as the proxy drones attack the family car, and the spooky Somnabulator wheel looms above over the house. Welcome skateboards did an awesome job once again, thanks guys, and hope the crew enjoys them!     

 

RICK AND MORTY - Final DeSmithation

One too many unresolved cookie fortunes for this business leader. Jenneth's Final Boss Mutation meets her end fighting off a Locker-ean beast that eats chaos capsules and her as well. The great Justin Noel nailed down a fantastic mid-mutation transformation pose that proceeds this moment, and this was a redlined color rough I did to give her a bigger monstrous end pose to the full final transformation. 
 

RICK AND MORTY - Bethic Twinstinct

Rick slices up a Bio-Mechanical Space Whale that telepathically talks to you in dreams. Rick wants to make a controller out of its wiring for smoother game play in a video game. Rick enhances it with a new esophagus, it'll thank him later.

RICK AND MORTY - Solaricks

 

"Mmmm I'm Mr. Frundles!' Here are more concept roughs from the season 6 premiere I did. Mr Frundles, the terrifyingly cute boogens that bites everything and turns it into a cartoon faced zombie. There are already tattoos online with Frundles on a body near you! Next is the derpy Cronenberg horse that Morty befriends, rides, and attempts to eat Morty. Lastly the new Rick UFO that has added built on armor plating to withstand the chaos of the the dangerous rift he must pass through. 

RICK AND MORTY - Solaricks

Season 6 is here woohoo! The premiere digs back into Ricks backstory and leaves the question of whether portal travel can be restored for the season. While grinding to finish season 5's finale I found a window to concept out a few characters for the season six premiere episode. The first image is the 8 limbed goo monster that is summoned by the beacon the Smiths assemble. Next is the Closet Cronenberg that can roll up into a speeding ball to roll around and pin Morty down. Lastly is the Alien Lizards that are looting the citadel ruins for parts. Hope you enjoyed it!   

RICK AND MORTY - Rickmurai Jack

"Rick and Two Crows" 'Oh shit, Kicking off a new franchise! Rick and Two crows forever!' The titular character 'Crow Rick' rough concept had many iterations that tried to best display his new crow companions after leaving Morty behind. The underground dwellers and cheap labororers,  Morlock Morty rough character concept pre humpback, attempt to expose the truth of the citadels weapon of mass destruction. Lastly, the Evil Morty escape pod rough concept punches him through multiple realities and universes before destroying the Central Finite Curve, freeing himself from the influence of Rick. I'm very proud of our crew for pulling this one off given the circumstances. This was by far the hardest episode I have ever worked on in my career and am happy to see the outcome pay off. Tip of the hat to the crew and their efforts for seeing it through, kudos. 

RICK AND MORTY - Forgetting Sarick Mortshall

"Mmmm trash, I love trash! Yum yum trash! I wanna eat trash!, wise words of Garbage Goober whom lives in a hole in Ricks garage. I was worried if the arms attached to the lips would be too distracting, but he came out great and is quickly becoming one of my new favorite characters. Lizard warlords of Kuntak rough concepts that hide a portal fluid supply. Last is Morty's bicyle spaceship rough concept that Rick cobbled together for Morty to be his errand boy handling the tiniest of tasks. Property of Adult Swim. RICK AND MORTY - Amortycan Grickfitti

I'll take your coat sir! The rough concept for Coat Hangar Face was so much fun to draw and gnarl his features in different ways!  The character team had a blast designing cenobites integrated with office supplies into their bodies in this hell episode, so good! Hold it right there partner! Rick and Morty is back with more crazy adventures as the fifth season invades your homes. These future western aliens are some roughs I did from one of my all time favorite episodes I have ever had the pleasure to work on. The Glockenspiel Jerry journey through the tag was truly a joy that made us all laugh throughout the process while working on it. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it!
